Exploring the log - April 27, 2016

A couple of children were exploring the log that was by Ground Zero.  When I got over to them they were putting pieces of wood into the holes that were in the log.  Both of them were quietly working together.  I asked them what they were doing.  The oldest child said "putting it together." They continued to work on the log side by side.

Pulling out pieces of bark and then finding holes to put the piece into.

Picking up the pieces of wood on the ground.  Have to clean up all of our mess.

A llittle while later the oldest child said again "Look I made a door for my house with this big piece of mud."

You never know how much fun you are going to have with an old rotten piece of wood!

Earth Day - April 22, 2016

Happy Earth Day!  We spent close to 28 hours outside this week.  It was so nice out most of the week we had to get out there and enjoy it.  It was the first week since winter that we spent this much time outside.  The children enjoyed all the fresh air.

We even picked up some garbage we found around our playgrounds today!

Let's go fly a kite - April 21, 2016

It was so windy outside this morning that we got some homemade kites out.  We watched the kites blow around in the wind. Some even blew out of our hands and we would have to run after them.

Waiting for our kites!

Watching how the ribbon blows around.

Waiting for the next big wind to move the kite.

We were so excited when the wind would move our kites into the air.

Even with it being so cold and windy outside this morning we still had so much fun with our kites!

Helping Hands - April 19, 2016

This morning we were out in the front yard. Nursery school was out there with us too.  A few of the children noticed Harley in his wheelchair.  Some of the friends went over to see him.  They asked Mrs. Carr some questions about Harley.  "Why is he in that chair?"  "Can he walk?" "Can he talk?"  Mrs Carr explained to the children why he was in the wheelchair and asked them if they wanted to help push him around.  They all jumped at the chance to help.

Helping push Harley around the playground.

Harley was very excited to have the other children around him.  He loved all the attention and showed it to the children by putting his hands up into the air.  The children were showing lots of empathy, love, kindness and compassion to Harley.

Wood Pecker - April 19, 2016

On Monday we had a visit from our wood pecker. He stayed with us for most of the morning pecking at the tree outside on our deck. The children enjoyed checking in on him to see if he was still there. We wondered if he was just eating bugs or if he was planning to build a house. We talked about the red cap on his head, how that's how you can tell he's a boy.

On Tuesday the weather was warm and we spent the morning on the deck. The children remembered which tree the wood pecker was at. They quickly went over to inspect to inspect the tree.
We noticed small holes in straight rows all along the trunk. We hope our wood pecker decides to come back and build his summer home.

April Showers - April 15, 2016

On friday afternoon we were stuck inside decades of the rain. The children were fascinated when it started to rain harder and harder! Mrs.Leier asked if anyone was interested in going on the deck to play in the rain.🌧
Ready for adventure!!

We took out some tin pails, shells and stones.
We collected water in our seashells and poured it into the pails.

The "rain tastes cold and wet!"
Checking in on our friends inside.
We loved listening to the rain fall into the tin pails.
                                                     Our friendly neighbourhood spider.🕷

                                                                     😍😍😍😍
We used a Spruce tree branch as an umbrella.

Our friends were so helpful to each other when we came inside. They helped one another with zippers and taking of splash pants. We even helped each other hang our things to dry!

We had a lovely afternoon in the rain!
