Cool Humidifier Fun-November 23, 2016

On Monday I thought it would be neat to show Preschool One my light up humidifier from home. It can mist out the top, change different colours, and hold a small capartment at the bottom to drop essential oils in. I chose lavender.

Before I told the children what it was I asked what they thought it was. I had such answers like..."It's a giant light bulb", "It's a Christmas decoration", and "It's a space ship".

I then showed the children where to drop the essential oil and then asked each child to take a turn smelling the cool and gentle mist.

"I think it smells like cookies".
"It smells like my Dad's perfume".
"Smells like my mom".
"Smells like purple".

We used our sensory and cognitive skills.

Squiggles - November 15, 2016

Recently the children have shown interest in our new toy "Squiggles". It is a colourful suction cup like toy that you can stick to things.

The children found that if they got them wet they would stick to the window better then when they were dry. 

We made a target for the children to aim at. Bullseye! 

We found it interesting in the different ways of play between the boys and girls. The boys tended to throw the toys at the window from afar and the girls walked up to the window and stuck them on closely. They all enjoyed listening to the sound when they removed the suction off the window. Sounds like a "Cluck" noise.

Popsicles - November 8, 2016

Ms.Curtis had purchased a bunch of new toys for PS1. It felt like Christmas this morning! The children were particularly interested in the alphabet Popsicles. Mrs.Leier had to remind our friends that these Popsicles were just pretend. Playing with these toy Popsicles combined with the nice weather made us want to make real Popsicles.

An eager group of helpers. We went to the kitchen to see what we had to make smoothies.

There we found extra chocolate milk, Bananas and strawberry yogurt.

We had lots of left overs so Mrs.Leier shared the extras with everyone. We even got to use straws!

We look forward to having our Popsicles for afternoon snack.

Mixing Colours - November 4, 2016

This morning we worked our fine motor skills as we used eyedroppers to mixed coloured water together.  

We found that when they mixed some colours together it would change to a different colour.  

Some of the children had a hard time using the eyedroppers.  

After a few tries they would get the water up into the eyedroppers.  

We were very proud of ourselves when we filled the water all the way up to the top of the eyedroppers.

Nesting - Nov 3, 2016

In the morning the children have been busy building different types of forts. 

These girls worked very hard to put these chairs in this intricate pattern.

Placing the pillows to be walls under the loft.

SA1 is always generous in letting us use their large orange blanket to build our fort in the loft.

Building our own forts gives us a sense of our own special place in PS1.

Herbs - November 2, 2016

I had some herbs in my garden that I picked and brought in for the children to use with the pestle and mortar.  They had to use their fine motor skills to pull off the herbs from the stems.  Then the children smashed up the herbs (dill, Rosemary, chives, and mint) with the mortar.  

"It smells yummy."

"It smells like chocolate milk."

Ramps and tunnels - October 20, 2016

On Monday I put out some cardboard pieces in the block area. I left them there to see how the children would use them. This morning was the first day they noticed them. They started to use them as ramps. We added some tunnels and other wooden ramps to the cardboard ramps. They had a whole obstacle course build within minutes.

We all had to wait our turn so we decided to make a line so we knew who was next.

What a fun way to spend a morning.
